A piece of classic analogue kit at last :)
What better than a Moog. This page is dedicated to Bob Moog who sadly
passed away on August 21st 2005.
ExperiencesThe prod is the one bit of kit which is not actually part of my MIDI setup although it is possible to get retrofit devices. One of note would be the synhouse midijack from the States.Early taping efforts aside, the way I use the Moog is to play the whole song (or sections of into a Cubase Audio track and then sync it back into the song it was played to - easy. And the results are always good. The prod
is an excellent source of inspiration - not in the way a good preset
synth is but because you can change one control and suddenly the sound
is way different! When you lock both oscillators, the pitch wheel only
operates one of them so a great phase shifting effect is implemented
between the two. SoundsThese are a few simple demo sounds I just came up with:Family
Large moogs I have seen include the Moog modular - not that I have actually played with it. For those who don't know it is modular in design and oscillators, filters, LFO units, amplifiers, mixers and so on are chained together to make sounds. The modular principle uses patch bays and jack ended fly leads to facilitate connection. The unit
I saw
took up the whole of on side of a wall - impressive! Incidentally, there used to be a modular on display in the basement of Turnkey Music in London. The idea was you could sample it if you bought a sampler from them (a small price to pay!!!). It was not there last time I looked so I have no idea where it is. Surely they can't have lost it :( The latest addtition to the family (as on Aug 2006) is the
Little Phatty Tribute, and it looks fun :) It may just be me, but I
definitely see some similarity going on here. Excellent!!! ![]() |
